Gemini 2.0 might be right around the corner

There’s already some amazing AI on the market, but companies like Google and OpenAI aren’t satisfied. Both companies are poised to release their next biggest AI innovations, and one of them might steal the show. According to a new report, we’re already starting to see some signs that Google Gemini 2.0 is around the corner.

AI users are eagerly waiting for OpenAI to launch o1, its most advanced AI tool. When it launches, we know that it will set the standard for AI going forward. According to OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman, the company has reached human-level intelligence, and many believe that this is because of o1. At this point, it’s tough to tell. What we know is that it will most likely put current AI tools to shame.

Google Gemini 2.0 could come rather soon

At this point, Google hasn’t hinted at an imminent launch, but we know that the company has something in the oven. A few clues have popped up in a few places showing us that at least something exists.

Firstly, @testingcatalog on X.com posted a screenshot of the Gemini website with the model selector expanded. Under the Gemini Advanced option, we see “with 2.0-Pro-Exp-0111” as the bottom option. The subtitle reads “Our experimental model.”

The user said that they could already prompt it and get responses, so that could point to a functional model. They also said that it “seems to be working quite fast.” The user, however, said that they didn’t know if the response was really from Gemini 2.0.

Along with that, another clue popped up thanks to @slow_developer on X.com. According to the user, an unknown Gemini model appeared on the LMSYS Arena (battle). We can’t tell if that’s Gemini 2.0, but the user said that it outperformed OpenAI o1 mini in a test. So, there’s a chance that it could be the next Gemini model.

So, it seems that Gemini 2.0 exists somewhat on the internet. Again, we don’t know when Google plans to release this model, but we know that it should be pretty soon. There’s a chance that the company is waiting for OpenAI to launch o1 before launching Gemini 2.0. If so, then it could be similar to how OpenAI launched GPT-4o just a day before Google announced Gemini 1.5 Pro.
