Scream queen Scout Taylor-Compton returns with yet another horror flick next month, Rich Ragsdale’s The Long Night. The trailer for the upcoming horror film revolves around a couple who are targeted by a cult, and as the latest trailer for the film suggests, it will be a visual treat fans have come to associate with modern horror. Starring opposite Taylor-Compton is The Flight Attendant star Nolan Gerard Funk, who plays her boyfriend.
The trailer reveals some critical elements of the story, like the apocalyptic cult, of course, along with the almost abstract treatment of the story that makes it quite intriguing. At the center of the story are Grace and Jack, a young couple, and the former’s search for the whereabouts of her parents that she’s never known. In the process of this investigation, the pair sets up camp at Grace’s childhood home, where a terrifying cult targets them, members of which are determined to fulfill a deadly prophecy.
However, the list of horrors does not end with the apocalypse-obsessed cult itself, as there are skull-clad doom-mongers at large. As they figure out that something severely wrong is going on, absolute terror rains down on them over the course of the events. A quiet weekend takes a bizarre, terrifying turn when a nightmarish cult and their maniacal leader come to fulfill an apocalyptic prophecy, which is not quite revealed in the trailer. However, the film takes on the quite effective trope of turning known faces into horror elements, as Grace (Taylor-Compton) apparently becomes possessed by a supernatural force, possibly under the cult’s influence.
The trailer might also remind fans of the iconic Roman Polanski horror film Rosemary’s Baby, as at one point it shows Grace in a dream-like state, where the cult cut her baby out of her and kidnap it. The sequence prepares viewers for the level of gore and hopeless dread they can expect from the film. However, not all hope is lost, as the trailer goes on to show the couple fight back against the said cult, with Grace going up against a group of cult members face-on, shotgun in hand.
Taylor-Compton has by now come to be quite a familiar face in the genre of horror, mainly due to her reprising roles as the franchise heroine Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie’s Halloween reboots.
The Long Night is set to be available digitally from the 4th of February.
