The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design launched earlier this month, and we’ve had a chance to use it. That phone is very pricey as it is, as it’s the world’s first tri-fold smartphone. Well, Caviar just announced its custom take on the Huawei Mate XT, a model covered with 24k gold. Needless to say, that variant is much more expensive.

Just to give you some perspective, the Huawei Mate XT is available in China for CNY19,999 ($2,850). Well, that’s the price of its base model. This Caviar variant’s price range is $12,770-$15,360. Gold is the main reason why, of course.

Caviar is well-known for re-releasing popular smartphones covered by gold and other luxury materials. This smartphone is a part of Caviar’s ‘Rich Colors’ collection, and there are two models available, Black Dragon and Gold Dragon.

Black Dragon & Gold Dragon models have been announced

The Black Dragon model is actually inspired by teh Xuanlong Dragon from the Chinese mythology. It is wrapped in black crocodile leather so that it resembles the scales of the Xuanlong Dragon. Gold-placed details are also included, of course.

The Gold Dragon model, on the flip side, is almost entirely covered by 24K gold. Its surface sports an interesting texture, a texture of imperial swords crafted in the Chinese city of Longquan. That’s where the Chinese art of multi-layer sword originates from.

The company will make only 88 units of both variants

Caviar says that it will make only 88 unist of both of these variants. Why 88 in particular? Well, that is considered to be a lucky number in Chinese culture.

Both Black Dragon and Gold Dragon models come in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options. The Black Dragon version is priced at $12,770, $13,200, and $13,630 for the three storage options, respectively.

The Gold Dragon model is even more expensive. Its three storage options are priced at $14,500, $14,930, and $15,360. Considering these price tags, not many people can even think of getting Caviar’s Huawei Mate XT.

The Huawei Mate XT is currently limited to China, but it’s coming to global markets in Q1 2025.
