Samsung has introduced its Samsung Health Research Stack suite. The brand’s new SDK suite is a comprehensive solution aimed at improving digital health devices. The solution provides advanced data from Galaxy wearables to researchers and developers across the globe. Samsung Health Research Stack is the company’s open-source project. It is touted to offer a “versatile research environment” for health devices.

Samsung’s new Health Research Stack will offer data-based digital health research

Samsung has released the Health Research Stack version 2.0 beta. The company originally launched the solution as Samsung Health Stack Alpha in 2022 and Health Stack 1.0 in 2023. The company has now renamed the open-source project to Samsung Health Research Stack. The program emphasizes or increases support for data-based digital health research.

The new project is a comprehensive package of software development tools for healthcare solutions. The solution supports digital health research using Android smartphones and Wear OS smartwatches. The company says the platform delivers IT developers and researchers with a complete software environment to “conveniently and safely plan services” using relevant health data.

New SDK supports the development of mobile apps for both research and smartwatches

The data suite also opens up many important health metrics gathered by various devices in the Samsung Health app. The users now don’t need to download and activate any third-party apps. These include the Galaxy Watch, smartphones, and third-party devices. The SDK solution now supports the development of mobile apps for both research and smartwatches.

Notably, the researchers and developers can also use sleep data from the newly launched Galaxy Ring. Most importantly, the new SDK provides enhanced support for the Sensor SDK for the first time. It will allow developers to create wearable apps that measure and utilize electrocardiograms. They can also use the blood oxygen level and body composition data from the sensors of the Galaxy wearables.

“Samsung Health Research Stack is already being used in multiple domestic and international clinical studies that utilize Galaxy Watch. With our innovative wearable technology, we aim to contribute to expanding the digital health ecosystem and serve as a valuable partner to IT and medical professionals in achieving research breakthroughs”, said Yunsu Lee, Head of the Data Intelligence Team, at Samsung Research.

Samsung will showcase the app SDK development tool at SDC 2024

In a press release, Samsung announced that it will showcase the Health Research Stack at the upcoming Samsung Developer Conference 2024. The event will kick off on October 2 in San Jose, California. The SDK suite is available for any company or medical institution, which are making solutions that utilize wearable devices and biomarkers.

The development tool will reduce the cost and time needed to make apps for digital health. The latest version of the SDK suite is available to download on the Samsung Developer website and GitHub.
