Announced at IFA 2024, the HMD Fusion is now appearing in HMD’s online stores across major EU markets. HMD claimed the Fusion is a customizable smartphone, but hasn’t offered any modular attachments yet.

HMD launches a low-end mid-range ‘modular’ smartphone

The HMD Fusion is now available in Europe. The company has listed the phone in Germany, France, Spain, Finland, Italy and Ireland.

HMD Fusion is available in two variants, and the pricing indicates it is an affordable, mid-range Android smartphone. The entry-level model of the smartphone, with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, is listed at €269.99. The 8GB/256GB model is selling for €299.99.

In the UK, the price for the phone appears slightly more attractive at £229.99 and £249.99. Incidentally, it is already sold out in most of the markets. This might suggest that HMD released a small number of units, presumably to test the waters.

Alternatively, the HMD Fusion appears to be a value-for-money, affordable handset. It features a 6.56-inch HD+ IPS LCD with a 90Hz refresh rate. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 with 5G capabilities powers the smartphone.

HMD has packed a decent 5000mAh battery, with a respectable 33W wired fast charging support, in the phone. The smartphone features a single 108MP primary rear camera and a 50MP selfie camera on the front.

HMD hyped the device for its modularity. But, the company hasn’t launched any modular components for the device yet.

When will the HMD Fusion achieve modularity?

HMD advertised the HMD Fusion as a phone with a modular design. The brand reportedly promoted “Fusion Smart Outfits”, which are interchangeable covers for the smartphone.

These hot-swappable covers add features like wireless charging, rugged protection, a ring light, game controllers, and such. None of these covers are currently available on HDM’s online stores. And HMD Fusion buyers will have to purchase a charger separately. HMD sells a 33W charger for €24.99.

HMD hasn’t confirmed the launch and availability of the “Smart Outfits” covers that would make the HMD Fusion a modular device. Still, the smartphone is selling quickly, presumably because it is an affordable 5G smartphone.
