Google has launched the Pixel 9 series devices with a total of four models: Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Now some early adopters of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold are reporting that 5G is not functioning properly on AT&T.

Google Pixel 9 Pro XL only connects to LTE/5GE on AT&T as of now

To be specific, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold seems to be limited on LTE/5GE on AT&T. For those unfamiliar, 5G Evolution (5GE) is not a new generation of cellular technology but a branding term used by AT&T for its enhanced 4G LTE network. This is surprising because the Pixel 9 Pro Fold supports AT&T’s n260, n5, and n77 5G frequency bands.

A Reddit user noted that his Pixel 9 Pro XL was showing LTE everywhere while he was driving around. However, he mentioned that he didn’t face any connectivity issues with LTE on the device and that the battery life was also notably good. In his usage, the phone lasted “almost 24 hours” on a single charge. This 5G connectivity issue was first reported by Android Authority.

AT&T has reportedly advised users to wait for 72 hours after inserting their SIM into the new device. However, it didn’t fix the problem. Some users suggested inserting the sim into a different device before re-inserting it into the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.

Reddit user jackbnim visited an AT&T store regarding this issue. After inserting the sim card into an old phone, 5G showed up. But after reinserting the sim into the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the phone initially showed 5G+ but quickly reverted to 4g.

Fortunately, there seems to be a workaround

According to a comment on a post in the PixelFold subreddit, Reddit user majorcorn also noticed the same problem with his Pixel 8 Pro. Updating the IMEI for the device on his AT&T account reportedly fixed the issue. So users of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold can try updating the IMEI on their AT&T account. For that, users need to open “Manage SIMs” and then click Get Started under Switch Devices. From there it will prompt users to enter your IMEI.
