Sony has just unveiled its two new high-end flagship projectors with the same naming convention as the company’s top-end Bravia lineup. The brand’s new devices in the category include the Sony Bravia Projector 8 and Bravia Projector 9. These are the Japanese tech giant’s first projectors to incorporate its advanced XR Processing technology found in the Bravia OLED TVs. Notably, the brand’s flagship Bravia 9 TV also utilizes the same technology.
Bravia Projector 8 and 9 flaunt native 4K resolution and Sony’s XR Processor
Sony’s new Bravia Projector 8 and Projector 9 flaunt the company’s XR Processor for Projector. It is a modified version of the brand’s Bravia TV processor. It provides a whole range of features to deliver “a professional-grade cinematic experience”. Some of these features include XR Dynamic Tone Mapping, XR Deep Black, XR Triluminos Pro, and XR Clear Image tech.
Sony’s XR Tone Mapping feature on the new projectors can analyze the maximum brightness levels in video content frame by frame. This allows the new projectors to “deliver optimal tone mapping, showcasing images with rich gradation, high brightness, and authentic colors”, said Sony. Furthermore, both the new devices can upscale everything to 4K quality, and support HDR10 and HLG formats.
Sony’s new projectors entice gamers with 4K 120fps at 12ms input lag time
Sony is also targeting gamers with the Bravia Projector 8 and Projector 9. Both offer support for 4K 120fps at a 12ms input lag time, ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), and a lag-free gaming experience. They also flaunt two HDMI 2.1 ports, allowing hassle-free connection to popular gaming consoles. The Bravia Projector 9 also boasts the Live Color Enhancer, which delivers more vivid and vibrant images even in brighter environments.
The new Sony projectors mostly differ in their brightness ratings. The more affordable Bravia Projector 8 delivers 2,700 lumens, while the higher-end Bravia Projector 9 pushes things to 3,400 lumens.
Coming to the pricing, the Sony Projector 8 will retail for $16,000, while the Projector 9 will set you back by $32,000. They will be available to buy at Sony Electronics, Amazon, Best Buy, and other authorized stores from early September.
