The world’s first tri-fold smartphone will become official on September 10, and we finally get a good look at the phone, following some not-so-great images. This smartphone is coming from Huawei, and thanks to a video teaser, we can check out the device.

Thanks to an official video teaser we finally get a good look at world’s first tri-fold smartphone

Huawei released this video teaser via Weibo, and you can check it out here. The only thing important from it, however, are two frames that show the device in folded and unfolded forms. You can check out those two images in the gallery below.

The full name of this device is the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design. It could be the Huawei Mate XT only, but that entire name was mentioned by Huawei. On top of that, you can see the ‘Ultimate Design’ part on the back of the device itself.

Now, the first image here shows us the phone in a folded form, from the back. You can clearly see that vegan leather is used on the back here and that the phone has an interesting-looking camera island on the back.

The camera island has an octagonal shape, and the XMAGE branding is present here

This camera island is not round, it has an octagonal shape. Three or four cameras are located in there, one of which is a periscope telephoto unit. We’re not sure if the fourth cutout is for a camera, if it is, it’s a very small sensor. The ‘XMAGE’ branding is also visible.

You can also see that the phone has flattish sides (not flat though, which is more obvious in the second image) and that the power/lock and volume rocker keys are placed on the right-hand side. The power/lock button will almost certainly double as a fingerprint scanner.

The second image in the gallery shows us the phone in an unfolded form. You can clearly see two hinges in that image, and the fact that the frame is not entirely flat.

This smartphone will launch on September 10 in China, and it’s easily possible it will not make its way to global markets. It’s the first of its kind, and it will be quite expensive.
