Google could soon embed Gemini Gen AI in Android Auto. The in-car navigation and Android smartphone control platform should benefit from a revamped Google Assistant.
Google Gemini code discovered in Android Auto
Google has been adding its Gemini Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) to several products and online platforms. The Gen AI platform is getting increasingly capable and versatile. It appears Android Auto could be Gemini’s next home, reported Android Authority.
Multiple lines of code discovered in the latest Android Auto v12.8.143544 indicate Google could be planning to infuse Gemini into the platform. The biggest indicator of the development is the sudden appearance of the sparkle icon in Android Auto. Needless to add, this icon has become ubiquitous or a universal symbol for Gen AI.

Google has been religiously using the sparkle icon for Gemini. Its appearance in Android Auto strongly suggests users could get Gen AI features in the platform soon.
When will Android Auto users get Gemini AI?
The sparkle icon, which is synonymous with Gen AI, is currently devoid of any color. This suggests Google is still in the process of integrating Gemini into Android Auto.
Incidentally, Google has added relevant code to make the icon shine in multiple colors. This could indicate Gemini Gen AI in Android Auto would have a visually vibrant and dynamic icon.

Google could also be offering Gemini Live to Android Auto users. This is because some of the code also mentions “GeminiLiveAssistantAction”. This feature is currently available to Google One’s premium AI plan subscribers. Simply put, Google could be trying to open up a new revenue stream, wherein Android Auto users, with the right subscription, could get Gemini Live’s enhanced AI capabilities in their cars.
Incidentally, “GeminiLiveAssistantAction” appears in multiple places within the code. Moreover, there are multiple mentions of the word “Kitt”. Google could be referring to the spatially aware Smart Assistant in the 1980s TV series “Knight Rider”.

The code and the reference to Kitt suggest Google could be aiming to offer conversational AI in Android Auto. There’s even a line that mentions “Start Conversation”, which could be a keyword to initiate a conversation with Gemini AI embedded inside Android Auto.
It is important to note that Google hasn’t officially announced that Gemini AI is coming to Android Auto. However, Gen AI would significantly revolutionize the in-car experience as it promises to handle complex queries, provide personalized recommendations, and even engage in natural conversations. And drivers could do all this without ever taking their eyes off the road.
