The new slimmer version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 isn’t exactly Samsung’s most closely guarded secret. We all know that the company has been working on it for some time, and it’s called the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. Well, thanks to a new leak from Evan Blass, we know how thin the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition could be.
To catch you up, Samsung recently launched the new Galaxy Z Fold 6, and it didn’t bring too many hardware changes. However, we’ve been following rumors of Samsung launching an additional version of the Z Fold 6. Months ago, we thought that the company was going to call it the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra.
However, thanks to a recent leak from Evan Blass, we know that the company went in a different direction with the name. It sounds like the Special Edition foldable phones will be a series all their own, which would be pretty weird.
Here’s how thin the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition could be
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is 5.6mm when open and 12.1mm thick when closed. That’s pretty hefty, but it’s pretty par for the course when it comes to foldable phones. Companies have been trying to slim them down to the point where they’re just as thick as a regular slab phone when closed.
Well, thanks to the new leak, it appears that Samsung will be getting pretty close to that. In the leak, we see some measurements for the screen sizes and the thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
When unfolded, this phone could be 4.9mm thick when open and 10.6mm when closed. This means that the phone could be 12.5% thinner when opened and about 12.4% thinner when closed compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 6. That’s a notable improvement, but it still falls behind the competition.
The competition
The HONOR Magic V3, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition’s main competition in terms of thinness, is 4.4mm when open and 9.3mm when closed. To put that into perspective, that’s only 8% thicker than the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
So, when this phone hits the market, it won’t be the thinnest. Not only that but the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is expected to cost more than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Magic V3 could cost around that price as well, if not less. So, HONOR’s upcoming phone could definitely give Samsung a run for its money.
