The Google Search app could get a handy “Search Recall” feature. As the name implies, this feature allows recalling the last search and repeating the query.
How does the Search Recall feature in Google app work?
Google has been quite busy launching the Pixel 9 series and announcing multiple Generative Artificial Intelligence features. However, the company is also tinkering with its Search app, which helps it remain the dominant search engine.
To simplify and improve the Google Search experience on a smartphone, Google has added Search Recall. The feature is present on the default Google app and is currently limited to the Android OS ecosystem.
During an APK teardown of the Google app version 15.34.32.29.arm64 beta, Android Authority discovered a new floating popup shortcut. This pop-up activates when users perform a search through the Google app. However, it also works on the search bar.
Google keeps track of search queries and questions. However, the Search Recall feature is limited to the last query only. With the feature activated, when users open the app or access the search bar, Google will display the last search query as a rounded popup.
Users can either accept the suggestion or they can dismiss the same with a tap. The pop-up stays on the screen for a few seconds. Hence, it is not obstructing or impeding the process.
How to get the new feature and repeat the last query?
The Search Recall feature is only accessible in the beta version of the Google app. As for the pop-up for the search bar, it is available on the Pixel Launcher’s home screen.
Google has currently tucked away the Search Recall feature under experimental flags. In other words, users will need to manually activate the feature. Moreover, users will also need to use the latest beta version of the Google app, which might not be stable.
The Search Recall pop-up is indeed practical and useful. Multitaskers who perform several searches could easily revisit their last query quickly. Hence, it is highly likely Google may roll out Search Recall in an upcoming stable version of the Google app.
