OnePlus could be readying magnetic accessories to wirelessly deliver power. The smartphone maker is rumored to be developing cases with magnets to bypass Apple’s MagSafe patents.
OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme developing an ecosystem of magnetic accessories?
Apple has managed to create a huge hype around MagSafe. The company embedded miniature but powerful magnets inside iPhone. These help iPhone users to attach accessories wirelessly.
Other smartphone makers cannot embed magnets primarily because of Apple’s MagSafe patents. However, OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme are reportedly attempting to circumvent these barricades.
According to serial tipster Digital Chat Station, the Ouga group has started developing an ecosystem of phone accessories with magnets. This business is essentially the parent company of OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme brands.
The smartphones from these brands can’t have “true magnetic wireless charging”, the tipster claimed. This is presumably because Apple owns patents with far-reaching scope around this technology.
How will Android smartphones get ‘Magnetic Wireless Charging’?
Several Android smartphones currently support wireless charging. The Qi standard for wireless charging even offers faster charging speed.
None of the Android smartphones, however, have integrated magnets to hold onto a wireless charging pad like the Apple MagSafe charger and accessories. Hence, accessory makers have devised a simple solution in the form of a magnetic ring that smartphone users can attach to their devices.
Similarly, OnePlus, OPPO, and Realme brands could offer phone cases with magnets and wireless charging support. Although details are scarce, smartphones from these brands would have wireless charging support. Official cases could have a magnetic ring that would allow MagSafe-like accessories.

Digital Chat Station also indicated companies could be working on other magnetic accessories such as clips for cooling. Several high-end Android smartphones are used for gaming, and they need external cooling solutions. Phone cases with magnets could help attach cooling solutions easily, without clips.
MagSafe adapters are quite popular not just with iPhone users. Android smartphone users also attach powerbanks, MagSafe chargers, and even tripods to their devices using MagSafe-like accessories.
It is important to note that the Qi 2 wireless charging standard doesn’t need magnets. Hence, phone cases with magnets would only help attach accessories, not boost charging.
