Google has added the recently launched Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL smartphones to the Android 15 Beta 4.2 program. The two new Pixel phones have just started shipping to the buyers. They boot Android 14 out of the box, the first time a newly launched Pixel device shipped with an old Android iteration. However, you will get the latest Android version as soon as you turn it on and join the Android 15 Beta program.

Google added the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL to the Android 15 Beta 4.2 on August 22. The company originally rolled out the beta 4.2 update earlier this month. It was made available for major previous Pixel series products, apart from all other supported devices. The latest version arrived as the last beta update to the new Android iteration. Apart from a few bug fixes, the latest Android security features, and stable camera performance, the new update doesn’t bring anything major.
Soon, we can expect Google to launch the stable Android 15 update to all eligible devices in the coming days. It could happen later this month or in September. There also are speculations that the final stable Android 15 update won’t be available before October, we can only wait and watch.
Google hasn’t yet added the Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro Fold to the Android 15 beta program. However, they will likely get their Android 15 Beta 4.2 update as soon as they start shipping in September.
Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro XL pre-orders are now shipping
Google started taking pre-orders for two of the new Pixel 9 phones, including the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL last week. The company has begun shipping the units to those who pre-ordered the new flagships earlier. Now, the Pixel 9 and 9 Pro XL variants are available via open sales.
Those interested can purchase the Pixel 9 starting from $799. As for the higher-end Pixel 9 Pro XL, it is available at a starting price tag of $1,099.
