The Google Pixel 9 series smartphones were announced yesterday, and Zack from JerryRigEverything already had a chance to test one. The YouTuber got his hands on the Pixel 9 Pro XL, and we all know what that means… durability tests.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL does a fantastic job in a series of durability tests
Spoiler alert, the Pixel 9 Pro XL did a great job in a series of durability tests, in every single one of them, basically. Let’s take things one step at a time. The entire YouTube video is embedded at the bottom, but we’ll talk about it in the rest of the article.
The first test that Zack did was the display scratch test. The results are exactly what you’d expect, considering that Google opted for the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Scratches are visible at a level 6, with deeper grooves at a level 7.
The sides are made out of aluminum, as are the buttons. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is placed on the back too, while the camera island on the back is encased in metal (aluminum) too.
When exposed to a direct flame from a lighter, the display lasted for 30 seconds. The damage was not visible afterward, the display fully recovered, really fast actually.
The fingerprint scanner is great, and the phone didn’t budge during a bend test
The entire Google Pixel 9 series uses an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. Even when Zack added considerable scratches over that fingerprint scanner, it continued to a great job scanning his finger.
And now, for the star of the show, the bend test. As he usually does, Zack applied pressure from both the front and the back sides, and the phone barely moved. Its structural integrity is much better than what the Pixel 8 Pro offered last year.
Overall, the Pixel 9 Pro XL did a great job in these tests, to say the least. It seemingly offers really good build quality.
