The iPhone 17 Air, as Mark Gurman refers to it, is coming next year, and based on a new report, it will be an in-between model, sort of. Do note that it was also referred to as the iPhone 17 Slim before.
The iPhone 17 Air is coming next year, and it will be an in-between model
Part of the new report talks about Apple’s upcoming ‘slim’ iPhone, and that’s what we’ll be focusing on in this article. We’ll tackle other parts of the report in separate pieces, parts talking about the iPhone 16 and iPhone SE 4.
It seems like the iPhone 17 Air will replace the iPhone 17 Plus, based on previous reports. Now, Mark Gurman says that the device will be an in-between model. It will sit between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro.
He says that this phone will be for people who “want something snazzier than a standard iPhone, but don’t really need teh performance, screen size or cameras of a Pro model”.
The source expects the ‘Air’ model to be a bigger hit than ‘Mini’ and ‘Plus’ models
Gurman also added that he expects the iPhone 17 Air to be a bigger hit than Apple’s ‘Mini’ and ‘Plus’ models. To be more accurate, he meant the iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 13 Mini, in addition to the iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone 16 Plus.
He also expects Apple’s iPhone devices to return to “meaningful growth” in 2025. This ‘Air’ iPhone will help out with that, it would seem.
The phone is expected to have a smaller Dynamic Island cutout and an aluminum chassis. It’s also expected to have a slightly smaller display than the iPhone Plus models, a 6.6-inch panel. For comparison’s sake, the iPhone 15 Plus has a 6.7-inch display.
This smartphone won’t be cheap, though. It is expected to cost less than the ‘Pro’ models, but notably more than the iPhone 17. We still don’t know what price tag exactly to expect, though, it’s way too early for that.
