Ever since the Pixel 6 series of phones, Google has been using its own in-house line of SoCs called the Tensor chips. The company has been improving it over the years, and we’re going to see the Tensor G4 in its latest line of phones. Well, according to a new report, the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 will bring a new Google Tensor A1 chip.
Much of the time, the chip powering a pair of headphones or earbuds isn’t as important as a chip powering a phone. However, the processor can have an effect on the listening experience. We’ve also heard about companies like Apple and Sony fitting their headphones with their own specialty chips. This is why they make some of the best headphones on the market.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 could come with the new Tensor A1 chip
Google’s new Pixel Buds will come into the light tomorrow during the company’s next Made by Google event. It will kick off at 1PM EST (10AM PST). Along with the Pixel Buds, we’ll see the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and Pixel Watch 3. Be sure to check it out and stay tuned to Android Headlines for coverage.
Among the news about these earbuds, we got some interesting information. According to @MysteryLupin on X.com, the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 will come with a new Tensor A1 chip. This new chip will help double the performance of the earbuds’ ANC. The first Pixel Buds Pro were great earbuds, but the ANC wasn’t the best. So, we should expect better noise cancelation.
While these are the first Pixel Buds Pro with a Tensor A chip, these aren’t the first Pixel Buds with custom Google-made silicon. The previous first-generation Pixel Buds Pro also had a custom SoC, but it wasn’t in the Tensor family. Since Google’s audio chips are now in the Tensor family, we might see more in the future.
The Pixel Buds Pro 2 are expected to debut at $229 when they launch. Pre-orders will begin tomorrow, but they won’t ship until September 26th.
