Earlier in February, Google brought Gemini to smartphones with a dedicated app. Soon after, there were reports that Google was working towards bringing Gemini to headphones. Now more evidence for the same has appeared in the latest version of the Google app. A new “Gemini on earbuds” branding has been spotted in the Google app by 9to5Google.
The Google app’s code contains strings that mention “Gemini on earbuds”
According to the source, a mention of “Gemini on earbuds” has been found inside the code of version 15.31 of the Google app. In the teardown of the app, the outlet has found a mention of this branding. One of the strings reads “Your new AI assistant is on headphones”. Furthermore, the Google app v15.31’s code also mentions “Talk to Gemini on earbuds”.
It looks like Google is all set to let you access Gemini on your phones using your headphones or earbuds. Previous reports have suggested that you’ll be able to summon Gemini using voice commands for earbuds/headphones. The functionality should be similar to what we have for the Google Assistant.
After summoning Gemini using your earbuds, you will be able to ask a question about a certain topic and Gemini will give you a spoken response. It will be interesting to see how Google optimizes Gemini on earbuds or headphones. Especially when it comes to the length of responses. We will have to wait and watch.
Google could announce it alongside the upcoming Pixel Buds 2 Pro
Google could announce Gemini’s support for earbuds alongside the upcoming Pixel Buds 2 Pro. It’s merely speculation at the moment since Google hasn’t teased or announced it yet. It’s also not clear if the AI chatbot will work with the current Google Assistant-powered earbuds and headphones.
The next-gen Pixel Buds 2 Pro are rumored to be launched alongside the latest Pixel 9 series of smartphones later this month. Some reports indicate that the new earbuds may see the light of the day in September instead.
