About a week ago, Russia fined Google and TikTok over banned content. In the latest development of the situation, it seems like Russia will soon block Google, Android, and iOS.

Russia could soon issue a block for Google, Android & iOS

This information comes from Aleksei Didenko, a member of the Russian State Duma, as Globe Eye News reports. No additional explanation was provided by the source, but the aforementioned banned content has something to do with it, for sure

Google and TikTok failed to comply with an order from communications regular in Russia, Roskomnadzor, over banned content. Google received a fine of 5 million roubles ($58,000) and TikTok 4 million roubles ($46,000).

Russia has been requesting, for years, for such platforms to remove content it deems illegal. Google has been mentioned rather frequently, especially over YouTube and the content included there.

It seems like Russia will take things a step further, and not only block Google, but Google’s mobile operating system, and the same goes for iOS. Well, presuming that the report Globe Eye News shared is correct.

We should get more information in the coming days

Considering it was said that the ban will take place soon, we should hear more about it in the coming days. If it happens, Russia will provide an official explanation. However, we can presume that the failure to remove content has a lot to do with it.

It is a bit surprising that both Android and iOS were mentioned as part of the ban, though. Fines were expected, but the news of an upcoming block is still somewhat surprising.

As many of you know, the war in Ukraine is still ongoing. That conflict seemingly brought forth a lot of content that Russia doesn’t approve of, which is why the state could decide to take the next step.
