It appears that Google is testing the drag-and-drop functionality for the Chrome app on Android devices. The feature is already available in Google Chrome for desktop devices and certainly saves a lot of time. Now, MSPoweruser reports that the much-awaited drag-and-drop feature may soon be available on Chrome’s Android counterpart. Alongside this feature, Google may also bring a change to the “Recent Searches” feature as well.
The drag-and-drop feature will arrive in Chrome for Android version 129 update
As per the report, the drag-and-drop feature for Chrome’s Android app will arrive in the upcoming version 129. As of now, this version is only available in the Dev channel. The source spotted a new commit “Enable DragDropFiles for M129” on Chromium. You can use this functionality once Chrome for Android version 129 launches in the coming days.
Once launched, you can move files from one location to another within the browser. Notably, you will be able to move a file from the browser to other apps as well. The experience will be kind of similar to how it works on Chrome for desktop devices. The strings of code on Chromium also suggest that once launched, it will be enabled by default.
The “Recent Searches” feature is also likely to be changed in the upcoming release
Apart from the drag-and-drop feature, MSPoweruser has also spotted a change in the “Recent Searches” feature in the Dev channel update. There’s a new commit that reads “Enable requesting related searches” in the string of code. It suggests that soon you will see results related to recent searches as you start typing in the address bar. These will be displayed at the bottom as you type.
It will certainly save time when it comes to typing the query you searched for earlier. It’s worth mentioning that the change to “Recent Searches” will be released based on user feedback. Google has a habit of experimenting with a lot of new features for its apps in the Dev channel. However, not all of them are released in the final update.
