Galaxy S24 Ultra users are in luck, as the next One UI 7.0 update could bring a notable camera quality boost to the device. One UI 7.0 aims to be one of the biggest updates for Galaxy devices in years. Multiple new features and UI tweaks are expected to improve the user experience.
In the smartphone industry, flagship devices use camera quality to stand out from the crowd. Samsung is one of the companies that is always competing to offer the best mobile photography experience with its Galaxy S lineup. Currently, its most powerful “camera phone” is the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
One UI 7.0 may bring notable camera quality improvements to the Galaxy S24 Ultra
According to tipster Ice Universe on X, One UI 7.0 will make the cameras of the Galaxy S24 Ultra even better. It seems that the South Korean giant is focusing on optimizing the image quality of 50MP mode to match the 12MP mode. If you’re not aware, modern mobile devices use pixel-binning technology to produce better photos. Basically, there’s a combination of adjacent pixels fusion and computational photography to enhance parameters such as HDR, contrast, detail level, and more.
However, using pixel-binning technology means getting lower-resolution photos. For those who want higher-resolution photos, Camera apps usually include a separate mode. In the S24 Ultra, the default pixel-binned photos are 12MP, but you can also take photos at 50MP. The problem is that the higher resolution photo modes lose quality compared to the default 12MP one.
50MP and 12MP modes to reportedly show the same quality
That said, it seems that Samsung found a way to solve the problem. The leak claims that the company is working on making the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s 50MP “1x” (main) and “5x” (telephoto) photos have the same quality as the 12MP pictures. This means that you’ll be able to take photos at a much higher resolution without losing quality.
If the leak is true, One UI 7.0 will indeed bring a noticeable camera boost to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, it looks like users may have to wait a few weeks longer than expected. A recent report suggests that there’s still a lot of work ahead to make One UI 7.0 “usable.”
