Samsung launched the first Galaxy Watch Ultra as its most premium smartwatch ever. Compared to the Galaxy Watch 7, it boasts more accurate health/fitness tracking, longer battery life, and a more premium build, among other improvements. However, a Galaxy Watch Ultra user has reported a potential paint peeling issue in the case, raising some concerns.
According to Redditor bimmerb0ii, their Watch Ultra is showing paint peeling on the back, right above the IMEI number. While the chipped area is small, it’s not a nice thing to see on a newly purchased product (especially an expensive one). According to the report, the smartwatch wasn’t even used for sports or at the gym, which makes the situation more unusual.
Paint chipping was reported on a Galaxy Watch Ultra with light use
Fortunately, the user received a replacement after contacting Samsung’s support team. So, in case you experience something similar on your smartwatch, it seems that the company recognizes it as a situation that should not happen where you can use your warranty. The reason for the appearance of the problem on the device is unknown. The user did not offer more details about it in their posts, so Samsung probably did not give them a justification.
Another Redditor suggested that the problem is due to the fact that the gray Watch Ultra has a layer of paint on the back area. This does not occur on the white and silver color variants. Therefore, the paint peeling should not appear on those versions of the Galaxy Watch Ultra. However, at the moment this is pure speculation, as there is no official word yet.
Another titanium device with paint peeling reports
One of the biggest improvements of the Watch Ultra is its case made of titanium. That said, it is not the first time that devices that use said material present similar problems. There are reports of buyers of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro Max complaining about paint peeling. For now, there is only one report regarding the potential issue on the Watch Ultra. So, it could just be a defective unit. We’ll have to wait and see if similar reports emerge in the coming days or weeks.
