Microsoft has been adding one after another new feature to its Edge browser lately. It appears the company is in no mood of stopping anytime soon. The latest we have is a dedicated Games panel that gives you quick access to, well, games.
First spotted by Redditor Leopeva64 (via), this feature is currently available to users in Edge Canary. It’s disabled by default but you can enable it by toggling the “Games button” option under the Appearance menu in Settings. This will add a new Games button on the omnibar. It sits between the Download button and the Web capture button if you have them enabled, of course.
Clicking this Games button will launch a vertical panel on the right side of the browser. Here, you’ll find a bunch of HTML5 games, many of which are also available on Microsoft’s MSN Games. Like any other apps and games store, this dedicated Games panel in the Edge browser divides the available titles into various categories. We have categories such as Microsoft classics, Arcade, Board & Card, Puzzle, Sports, Casual, Match 3, Brainteasers, and more.
You can click on any game and start playing it right in your browser. No need to download it, nor are you required to exit or leave the browser. Needless to say, the Games panel will be available in the Edge browser across all major platforms.
Microsoft is testing a Games panel in the Edge browser
Microsoft Edge has picked up numerous new features over the past few months. Shopping features like price tracker, advanced password manager, Math Solver, and Followable Web are to name a few. Many of these aren’t core features and don’t serve any purpose to most Edge users. Perhaps they could have been extensions rather than fully baked-in features. Meanwhile, Microsoft keeps on adding more of them. The newly discovered Games panel is one such feature that could have been an extension.
It appears this dedicated Games panel in Microsoft Edge is still in the early stages of development. The feature is not yet available to everyone in the Canary channel. So there’s likely some time to go before it reaches the public if the company has such plans. But if you want to access the feature early, you can download the latest build of Edge Canary from here. Note that the Games panel was not available for some users on Edge Canary 99.0.1117.0, but you can always test your luck. Stay tuned for its stable rollout.
