Galaxy S24, S23 & more devices get July update in the US

Samsung‘s July 2024 update has finally reached the US Galaxy S24 units. The company is also pushing the latest security patch to the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S23 FE, and Galaxy S21 FE stateside. These devices have already received this update in several international markets.

Galaxy S24 grabs Samsung’s July security update in the US

The July SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is Samsung’s latest monthly security patch for Galaxy devices. It contains fixes for over 60 vulnerabilities, including six critical and dozens of high-severity vulnerabilities in Android OS, Samsung services, and other system components that make up the whole device. The company has been pushing the update to eligible Galaxy smartphones and tablets since early this month.

Last week, the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra received the update in various international markets. Samsung has now released it in the US. Both carrier-locked and unlocked variants are getting the new security patch stateside. The updated firmware build numbers are S92*USQS3AXFC and S92*U1UES3AXFC, respectively. The official changelog confirms that the update only contains security fixes with no additional goodies.

The Galaxy S24 series is expected to receive a bigger update in August. It should bring new Galaxy AI features and camera enhancements from One UI 6.1.1 that debuted with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 last week. The update may also contain bug fixes and performance improvements for existing camera features. The Galaxy S23 series will also receive a few compatible features from the new foldables, including so camera goodies.

In the meantime, Samsung is updating the US versions of its 2023 flagships to the July security patch. The update is rolling out to carrier-locked units with the build number S91*USQS4CXE9. The Galaxy S23 FE is getting the July SMR with firmware versions S711USQS5CXF8 and S711U1UES5CXF9. That for the Galaxy S21 FE is G990USQSCGXF5. These devices should soon receive the update widely on all wireless networks across the nation.

Global rollout for many other Galaxy devices

Alongside the aforementioned S series devices, Samsung’s July update is rolling out to a bunch of other phones in various global markets. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy S20 FE, Galaxy A73, Galaxy A52s, and Galaxy A35 are among those receiving the latest security patch. The foldables have already picked up the update in the US. You can always check for new software updates from the Settings app.
