It seems Samsung doesn’t want to be stuck on the July security update for long. It’s quickly clearing the way for the One UI 6.1.1 feature update. Over the past few days, it has pushed the new security patch to 20 or so different Galaxy models, including the late Note phones. Add a few more devices to the list. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and the Galaxy S21 series are receiving the July update in the US.
Samsung’s July update reaches the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 in the US
The July security update is available for both carrier-locked and unlocked variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in the US. The new firmware build numbers for the Fold are F946USQS4CXG2 and F946U1UES4CXG2, respectively. Those for the Flip are F731USQS4CXG2 and F731U1UES4CXG2. Both foldables are getting the same changelog. It’s the generic one that says, “The security of your device has been improved.”
In other words, Samsung is pushing the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) and nothing else. This month’s security release contains fixes for over 60 vulnerabilities, including at least six critical flaws. The patches come from Google, Samsung, and other Android OS partner vendors. Since critical vulnerabilities can lead to major security attacks, you should install this update as soon as you can. Check for updates from the Settings app on your phone.
The same security fixes are also rolling out to the Galaxy Z Fold 4, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and the Galaxy S21 series in the US. The build numbers for the foldables end with FXG2, while those for the 2021 S series flagships end with GXF3. The updates aren’t available as widely as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 yet. However, it is just a matter of time now. The changelog is the same as the 2023 foldable duo, so don’t expect additional goodies or features here.
A global rollout of this security update may begin anytime now
Some of these devices have already received the July update in international markets, while the rollout for others may begin anytime now. As said earlier, Samsung is rushing to complete the July SMR rollout and shift focus to the One UI 6.1.1 update. It will bring new AI features, camera improvements, bug fixes, and more changes to flagship Galaxy devices, including foldables and tablets. The update may arrive later this month or in early August.
