is set for release on October 18, 2024, and stars Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace alongside Wahlberg.
Academy Award nominee and Uncharted star Mark Wahlberglooks a little different to what audiences are used to in the first trailer for Flight Risk, from director Mel Gibson. While the leading man known for roles in The Fighter and the Transformers franchise starts off looking like the Marky Mark we all know, once he removes his hat and reveals himself as being a tricksy, balding, villainous assassin rather a trusted pilot, things quickly change.
You can check out the first trailer for the action thriller Flight Risk below.
The movie marks the first time that Mel Gibson, who has become a controversial figure over the years, has been behind the camera since the 2016 Oscar-winning World War II movie Hacksaw Ridge. He and Walhberg have worked together before, in both the 2017 comedy Daddy’s Home 2 and the biographical drama Father Stu in 2022.
Written by Jared Rosenberg, Flight Risk stars Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery and That ’70s Show and Spider-Man 3 star Topher Grace alongside Wahlberg. As well as the trailer, you can check out the official synopsis below.
“In this high-stakes suspense thriller, Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg (Best Supporting Actor, The Departed, 2006) plays a pilot transporting an Air Marshal (Michelle Dockery) accompanying a fugitive (Topher Grace) to trial. As they cross the Alaskan wilderness, tensions soar and trust is tested, as not everyone on board is who they seem.”
Mark Wahlberg Is Excited to Play the Villain for a Change
Mark Wahlberg has discussed what it was like transforming into a villain for Flight Risk (via People). The actor has not been the evil-doer often in his career, though he did show how it’s done in the 1996 psychological thriller movie Fear. For Wahlberg, the role was a chance to “really kind of switch it up.”
“It was one of those things where the character just jumped off the page and to really kind of switch it up. You got three people on the plane; they probably expect me to be the kind of guy who’s gonna save the day and within the first 15 minutes you really get into it.
But it really was all about playing that kind of character, which for me, if you don’t have a great villain, it doesn’t work. But I kind of wanted to push it a little bit more. We had a lot of fun.”

Lethal Weapon 5 appears to still be a long way off, but Gibson has at least given fans something to hope for with his latest update.
As for reuniting with Mel Gibson, Wahlberg said he and the filmmaker were quickly drawn to Flight Risk, with Wahlberg excited to play a very different character.
“We had talked about doing some other stuff while we were shooting Daddy’s Home and Father Stu, but then this kind of came and he sent me the script and I just responded right away. He didn’t even say which role. For me, there was only one role to play.”
Flight Risk
