Samsung is all set to raise the bar for Android smartphone makers with its Galaxy S22 series early next year. The Galaxy S22 Ultra, in particular, could be the smartphone to beat in 2022. Based on all the leaks and rumors so far, the new Samsung flagship has a lot going for it. More exciting details are coming in now, with a new report suggesting pretty staggering display brightness levels for the phone.
The folks over at SamMobile claim that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will reach a peak brightness level of an astonishing 1,750 nits. That’s significantly more than 1,500 nits of peak brightness the Galaxy S21 Ultra offered, which is the highest yet on any Samsung smartphone. So the upcoming phone will set a new record. It will boast a standard brightness level of 1,200 nits.
Interestingly, the Galaxy S22+ will also offer the same levels of standard and peak rightness as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. So it’s the one that’s seeing a bigger brightness gain over their respective predecessors. The Galaxy S21+ reportedly reached 1,300 nits of peak brightness.
The vanilla Galaxy S22, meanwhile, will not see any notable improvement in brightness levels. The new report suggests it will offer the same 1,000 and 1,300 nits of standard and peak brightness levels respectively as the Galaxy S21 this year. All three Galaxy S22 models will feature Super AMOLED display panels.
For the uninitiated, peak brightness refers to the highest level of brightness a display can achieve. However, it activates only in overly bright environments like under direct sunlight when auto-mode is enabled. Peak brightness is also limited to localized areas, i.e. certain pixels, and not the entire real estate of the display. What this means is that the rated brightness levels of smartphones are usually higher than third-party brightness benchmark scores that take into account full-screen brightness levels.
Nonetheless, these numbers suggest that the Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra will feature significantly brighter screens than their respective predecessors. The 1,300 nits of peak brightness levels on the Galaxy S22 isn’t bad either.
The Galaxy S22 series may arrive in early February next year
Samsung seems to be making some last-minute changes to its 2022 smartphone launch plans. A report yesterday claimed that the Galaxy S21 FE could go official on January 3, a day earlier than previously expected. Now, another report suggests the company has moved the Galaxy S22 launch as well. The new flagships will now reportedly break cover on February 9. General sales could begin on February 25. We expect to hear more about the phones in the coming weeks.
