How To Hide Your WhatsApp Status From Specific Contacts

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging platforms these days. The app evolved quite a bit over the years, and it supports quite a few features. Some of those features you’re probably not even aware of. There are quite a few privacy-related features that you may find useful, though. One such feature is the ability to hide your status, and there are several ways to do that. You can even hide it from specific people, if you want. That’s exactly what we’re here for, to show you how to hide your WhatsApp status from specific contacts, or people, if you will.

The process is quite simple, though it involves navigating through quite a few menus inside the WhatsApp application. We know that not everyone feels comfortable doing so, that’s why we’re here, to help out. Down below, you’ll find a step-by-step tutorial on how to do this, and we’ve also included some screenshots for you, to help you out. So, let’s get started.

How to hide your WhatsApp status from specific contacts

The first thing you’ll need to do is launch WhatsApp, of course. Once you’ve done that, and are on the main display, you’ll see the three vertical dots in the top-right corner, tap those.

A pop-up menu will appear, containing several options. We want to launch the app’s settings, so that’s the option you’ll need to choose.

WhatsApp’s settings will open, and the menu we want to navigate to is first on the list, ‘Account’.

From there, you’ll need to choose the first option called ‘Privacy’.

In the Privacy menu, find the ‘Status’ option, and tap on it.

Now that we’re in the Status privacy menu, we can get down to business. Considering that we want to hide your status from specific contacts/people, you’ll need to choose the ‘My contacts except…’ option (alternatively you can decide to only share your status with a couple of people). The moment you tap on it, a new menu will appear.

Your contacts list will open, and you’ll be able to select which contacts will be excluded from seeing your status. Simply select the contacts you want by tapping empty circles next to them, as shown below. Once you’re done, tap the circular check icon in the bottom-right corner.

You’ll be brought back to the previous menu, and the ‘Settings updated’ message will appear at the bottom. There you have it, you’ve hidden your status from the contacts you’ve selected.
