It’s been said that when society collapses, we’ll need good storytellers and performers the most (along with, you know, food and water). Art, stories, music, and humor give people an escape from reality (sometimes to the detriment of reality, if you’re only being distracted). So when it all comes crashing down, what’s more valuable than a good laugh? The upcoming British dark comedy film, Apocalypse Clown, takes that thought literally and follows a group of washed up clowns that end up in jail after a big brawl at the funeral of a legendary clown master, only to find out the next morning that some mysterious technological blackout has sent the world into complete chaos. Check out the new trailer for the film above, which is On Demand and Digital in the U.S. on June 14, 2024 from Blue Fox Entertainment.

A post-apocalyptic road trip wrapped up in a surreal comedy and garnished by a quiet love story, Apocalypse Clown continues the Irish and UK tradition of taking classic horror movie tropes and making them utterly ridiculous but still dark (Shaun of the Dead, Black Sheep, Anna and the Apocalypse). This one looks just as funny and grim, with some excellent makeup design and cinematography creating an absurd world without power.

George Kane directs the film, which he co-wrote with members of the Irish comedy group Dead Cat Bounce. Kane’s already established himself as the perfect kind of director for this, thanks to his work on the great horror-comedy series, Inside No. 9. He also served as a director on the hilarious recent series, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, and the delightful comedy shows, Back and Timewasters. He also directed every episode of the excellent pre-Fleabag series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Crashing.

Familiar Faces Covered in Clown Makeup

Apocalypse Clown has many familiar faces from the UK and Irish comedy scenes and television in general. The funny David Earl of Brian and Charles (and the Ricky Gervais series After Life and Derek) stars as Bobo, the heartbroken lead. The legendary voice actor and very funny Natalie Palamides is unrecognizable as the scary-looking clown, Funzo. Ivan Kaye (Vikings), Amy De Bhrún (Line of Duty), Tadhg Murphy (Shardlake), Pollyanna McIntosh (The Walking Dead), and others co-star.
