Samsung expands its May update to more Galaxy devices in the US
Last week, Samsung released the May security patch for the Galaxy S23 series and its latest foldables in the US. The update was initially available for carrier-locked units in the US. The company has since rolled it out in several international markets. The latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) is now rolling out to unlocked units stateside.
The devices are getting similar firmware build numbers as their carrier-locked counterparts. It is S91*U1UES3CXD7 for the Galaxy S23 series, F946U1UES3CXE3 for the Galaxy Z Fold 5, and F731U1UES3CXE3 for the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Additionally, Samsung has expanded the availability of the new SMR to the Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Flip 4, and Galaxy A54.
The latest FE phone is getting the May security patch in the US as well as some international markets. The update is available widely for all variants stateside. The update is also available in Canada (build number S711WVLS4CXE2), Hong Kong (S7110ZHS4CXE1), and India (S711BXXS3CXE3).
Samsung should soon roll out the May update to the Galaxy S23 FE globally. The new SMR for the Galaxy Z Flip 4, meanwhile, is already available in most parts of the world, including the US. Factory-unlocked units are getting the update stateside with the build number F721U1UES5FXE5. For international versions, it is F721BXXS7FXE4. Carrier-locked units should get it soon.
The Galaxy A54 is another Samsung phone that recently started getting the May security update. The rollout is currently limited to carrier-locked units in the US. The new firmware version for this premium mid-range phone from 2023 is A546USQS7CXE2. It shouldn’t be long before the company begins a global rollout. As usual, you can check for updates from the Settings app.
Galaxy Z Fold 4 is getting the update in international markets
While the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is receiving the May security patch globally, the update for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 appears limited to international markets. The Fold model is jumping to the build number F936BXXS7FXE6 following this update. Its US version should pick up the new SMR soon.
