Samsung is expected to roll out a major camera update for the Galaxy S24 series next month. The update may address several camera issues the new flagships have had since their launch. It appears a notable new update is on the way for the Galaxy S23 series as well. The 2023 flagships could get fixes for the battery drain issues that cropped up following the One UI 6.1 update.

Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 phones may get big updates in June

Launched in January, Samsung’s Galaxy S24 phones have received at least one software update every month. Some of those were mere security patches, while others contained camera improvements and optimizations. Rumors say the company will release another camera update for the new flagships in June, improving their zoom photography among other things.

Newly spotted firmware builds on Samsung’s test servers suggest the company has started testing the upcoming update internally. X user and Samsung tipster @tarunvats33 recently revealed that the Korean firm is testing firmware version S92*BXXU2AXE4 for the Galaxy S24 series. If you can read Samsung’s build numbers, this isn’t your regular security update.

A “U” in the sixth-to-last place in the build number indicates a feature update containing more than just security fixes. Updates only containing the latest security patch have “S” in place of “U”. This suggests the rumors about the Galaxy S24 series getting a major camera update in June are accurate. Since June isn’t too far away, we might get more details soon.

In the meantime, new pieces of evidence suggest the Galaxy S23 series will also get a notable update next month.  The same source spotted a “U” test firmware for the 2023 flagships on Samsung’s servers. The build number is S91*BXXU5CXE1. Unfortunately, we can’t see the changelog just yet, so it is unclear what the company is cooking.

One UI 6.1 introduced a few bugs to the devices

If the June update for the Galaxy S23 series isn’t all about security enhancements, we hope Samsung will include fixes for the battery drain issues. Several users have reported high battery drain following the One UI 6.1 update in late March. Some Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 users are also experiencing similar problems. It remains to be seen if Samsung will patch the issues on all affected devices next month. We will let you know when the June update is live for the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S23 series.
