Fairly Odd Parents! is coming to Netflix. Shortly after we reported that footage of the rebooted cartoon had leaked, Nickelodeon soon confirmed that the show was real but would be co-distributed with Netflix in international territories.

Developed by Daniel Abramovici, Ashleigh Crystal Hairston, Lindsay Katai, and David Stone, The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish is a new iteration of the Butch Harman series, updating its visual style from the 2D style of the original to fully CG. Susanne Blakeslee and Daran Norris will be returning to voice Wanda and Cosmo in the new series, with Ashleigh Crystal Hairston voicing the new protagonist, Hazel Wells, a 10-year-old girl living in Dimmadelphia. Throughout the series, we find Hazel finding it difficult to adjust to her new life, with her brother not around; when she tries to run away from home, she finds out her weird neighbors, Cosmo and Wanda, are fairy godparents in disguise.

Speaking to Cartoon Base about the series, Trevor Young said on going to a new protagonist, “I think early on there was a lot of excitement to set the show “now” and we’ve already seen Cosmo and Wanda have other kids they fairy godparent. A new kid felt like it makes the world of Fairly OddParents bigger, and the writing team found Hazel and who she was in a great way. She’s a tenacious 10 year old girl, person of color, living in a big city. If Timmy is your average kid, what does wish making look like for the not-so-average kid?”

Young also confirmed to the X outlet that Timmy wouldn’t feature in season 1 of the show and that there are plenty of ideas for additional seasons should the show be picked up beyond season 1.

Season 1 of the show will consist of 20 episodes and begin airing on May 20th on Nickelodeon in the US.

When will The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish Release on Netflix?

No release date has been set, but our friends at Cartoon Base did manage to ask Trevor Young about the release window, confirming that the series will indeed hit Netflix later in 2024. However, they added that a US streaming release has yet to be confirmed.

We suspect the distribution is akin to what we’ve seen with shows like That Girl Lay-Lay whereby Nickelodeon airs the show first and Netflix then carries the international rights exclusively. It’ll also then license the show in the United States, albeit without Netflix Original branding.

Until the release of The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish: A New Wish, many regions of Netflix (including the US) can stream select seasons of the original show.
