Following the success of the Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) last year, it was a no-brainer for Samsung to launch a sequel to it. Sure enough, the development of the Galaxy S21 FE began very early this year. But the year is about to come to an end and the phone is nowhere to be seen. Well, we have seen a lot of it over the past months, but only in leaks. The device is yet to go official. For reasons best known to the Korean behemoth, the Galaxy S21 FE isn’t coming until next year. Meanwhile, there’s no stopping to its leaks. And the latest leak reveals pretty much everything you need to know about the upcoming Fan Edition phone.

Galaxy S21 FE specifications leaked in detail

The Galaxy S21 FE will sport a 6.4-inch flat Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 401 PPI (pixels per inch)  pixel density, 2340 x 1080 pixels resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung is using Gorilla Glass Victus for protection.

According to the new report, the Galaxy S21 FE will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 chipset in Europe. Perhaps the device will run the same processor globally, like the Galaxy S20 FE last year. There have been reports of an Exynos 2100 variant as well, but the semiconductor shortage may have forced Samsung to change plans.

The Galaxy S21 FE will be offered in two memory configurations: 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB. Unfortunately, it appears the device will lack expandable storage. Samsung is offering two nano-SIM slots as well as eSIM support on the phone.

For power, the upcoming Fan Edition phone from Samsung packs a 4,500mAh battery that supports fast charging via a USB Type-C port. Samsung will not supply a charging brick in the retail box, though you can expect a cable to come along. The 3.5mm headphone jack is missing on this phone.

Other notable features include an ultrasonic under-display fingerprint scanner, an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, wireless charging, 5G cellular connectivity, and Samsung DeX support. The handset gets an aluminum frame and a polycarbonate (plastic) back panel. The whole unit measures 155.7 x 74.5 x 7.9 mm in dimension and weighs 170 grams.

Cameras are unchanged from last year

The Galaxy S21 FE packs the same four cameras that can be found in the Galaxy S20 FE. Samsung hasn’t changed anything at all, though we aren’t complaining. They are still very capable flagship-grade cameras.

Starting at the front, the centered punch-hole cutout on the top of the display houses a 32-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. It is a 1/2.8-inch sensor with 0.8μm-sized pixels, an F/2.2 aperture, and an 81-degree field of view (FoV).

On the back, we have a 12-megapixel primary camera with dual-pixel phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and OIS (optical image stabilization). This sensor features 1.8-μm-sized pixels, an F/1.8 aperture, and an 81-degree FoV. The 8-megapixel telephoto zoom camera also gets OIS and PDAF. It offers 3X optical zoom and comes with 1.0µm-sized pixels, an F/2.4 aperture, and a 32-degree FoV.

Lastly, the 12-megapixel ultrawide camera lets you capture scenes in a much wider 123-degrees field of view. This sensor has 1.12µm-sized pixels and an F/2.2 aperture. There’s no autofocus here.

Price & availability

As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy S21 FE has taken forever to hit market shelves. Reports suggest that the phone could finally break cover early next year, on January 4, to be precise. Sales will reportedly begin a week later.

As for prices, Samsung is said to charge €749 for the 6GB+128GB model and €819 for the 8GB+256GB model. The phone will come in graphite, olive, lavender, and white color options, though color availability may vary by market. Not long to go before things go official now.
