Netflix has just confirmed it will team up with Universal Television and veteran writer and producer Kevin Williamson for a new family drama series.

Details are slim at the moment, but Netflix has provided the following logline for the series:

“Inspired by true events, The Waterfront dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat.”

The series was announced at Netflix’s Upfront presentation in May 2024, during which Netflix announced several new projects, such as Happy Gilmore 2, a new Kathryn Bigelow movie, a Tim McGraw-led drama series, and the renewal of 3 Body Problem.

Williamson is perhaps best known for his work on the long-running Scream series, where he served in various capacities, including writing the first and second entries. He’s also worked on TV shows like The Vampire Diaries, Dawson’s Creek, and The Following.

The screenwriter founded Outerbanks Entertainment in 1995 who will be producing the show with Ben Fast from Outerbanks serving as executive producer. This marks their first project with Netflix and Universal Television following a long history of working with Sony Pictures Television, Disney, Warner Bros. Television, and CBS Television.

We’ll no doubt have a lot more to discuss with The Waterfront in due course, so keep it locked right here on What’s on Netflix for more.
