The Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center launched its electric humanoid robot “Tiangong” on Saturday. My Drivers, via Kuai Technology, reported that the launch took place in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. One key highlight of this humanoid robot is that it can run at a speed of 6 kilometers per hour, it’s the first in the world that can do that.

What makes the “Tiangong” humanoid robot so special?

Apart from being fully electric, this humanoid robot features a lightweight design which makes it stable for running. The natural running movement is possible through State Memory-based Predictive Reinforcement Imitation Learning. For those uninitiated, it is a new motion-learning skill used by humanoid robots.

Tiangong measures 163 cm tall and weighs 43 kg and comes with a high-precision six-dimensional force sensor offering precise force feedback.

Additionally, the Tiangong humanoid robot incorporates multiple visual perception sensors, 3D vision sensors, and a high-precision inertial measurements unit (IMU). All combined has made it possible to solve the robot’s basic motion control problems.

Worth mentioning that Tiangong can flawlessly pass through slopes and stairs even in the absence of vision. It also showed added capabilities by quickly adjusting its gaits at times when it stumbled or fell.

The future of “Tiangong”

The developers of the Tiangong humanoid robot said that it is open-source and compatible with scalability and emphasized that it will not only allow flexible software expansion but also further open up the communication interface.

Let’s not forget that the launch of Tiangong is just another example of the ongoing tech advancement around the world. More importantly, this not only brings a revolution in the humanoid robots development industry but also opens the door for diverse applications. Thanks to its natural running ability, the Tiangong humanoid robot might come in handy in rescue operations, manufacturing plants, and more.

Honestly, the possibilities are endless. On top of that, the popularity of the humanoid robots is backed by top companies. More recently, there were reports which claimed that Apple is secretly working on a personal robot.
