Deadpool & Wolverine continues to hype up its arrival this summer, with a new trailer and the first real look at Hugh Jackman’s return as his iconic X-Men character. As teased by Ryan Reynolds yesterday, the new footage brings together several new pieces of footage that expand on the initial record-breaking trailer released at this year’s Super Bowl, and continues to build up momentum for the movie gearing up to be Marvel Studios’ biggest hit in years.

Everyone knows how Wolverine’s story ends, but this little segue is probably the one story featuring the character that everyone wanted to see from the moment Reynolds made Deadpool a success in his own right after the misfire of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Now a reality, the film is set to play around with the fabric of time and space within not only the Fox Universe of X-Men movies but the MCU and potentially more. Check out the new trailer for the movie below.

Deadpool & Wolverine will bring together two comic book icons in a way that only the MCU’s multiverse has made possible. Now, as Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth coaxes Jackman’s clawed hero into what seems certain to be one last Logan run, we are slowly getting a better idea of what will befall both them, and the MCU, with their upcoming adventure.

Deadpool & Wolverine is Bringing What Fans Want From the Franchise

Not for the prudish, Deadpool & Wolverine is not shying away from the R-rated language and violence that has been part and parcel of the Deadpool franchise, despite fan-fears when the series became the property of Marvel Studios and, effectively, Disney. While Disney has always been focused on their family-orientated mantra, recent years have proven that it is time for the House of Mouse to open those doors that were once locked up tight and invest in more mature content as well.

Disney has already proven themselves possible of delivering additional projects in their acquired IPs thanks to the release of Predator prequel Prey, and, by all accounts, the upcoming additions to the Alien franchise, neither of which are angling for a place in the PG-13 lineup of Disney movies.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Anti-Cell Phone PSA May Play in Theaters This Summer

Deadpool & Wolverine embrace their R-Rating in a new PSA which could screen in theaters this summer.

What makes Deadpool & Wolverine so important, is that it is a direct call to fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that are looking for something from Marvel’s darker comics, and paves the way for more R-rated content from the franchise that has mostly played it safe. James Gunn and Peter Safran have threatened to pull the rug on Marvel’s monopoly on the superhero genre by splitting their DCU offerings between the all-encompassing projects like Superman and The Bold and the Brave, and R-rated projects like Creature Commandos and Swamp Thing. Now it seems that Marvel Studios has realized they need to do something similar with characters like Daredevil, Blade, and, of course, Deadpool, or miss out on what could be their biggest assets.

Deadpool & Wolverine has a clear shot at being Marvel Studios’ biggest movie of 2024, simply because it has no competition. However, it is also hard to imagine a scenario where the film does not become the first non-Spider-Man MCU offering to break the $1 billion mark since Avengers: Endgame. From reactions to the first trailers, Deadpool & Wolverine are about to be the darling couple skipping to the rescue of 2024’s box office – whether it needs saving or not.
