Another show from Netflix India has just gotten the thumbs-up for a second season. Maamla Legal Hai will be returning for season 2 at the streamer.

Created by Sameer Saxena, the legal comedy follows staff members of a busy and often chaotic district court. The cast was led by Naila Grewal, Anant Joshi, Ravi Kishan, and Nidhi Bisht.

Reviews from the region were mixed-to-positive, with OTT Play granting the series a 3.5/5, saying, “Maamla Legal Hai does plead guilty to charges of tickling the funny bone in the right way, and it’s the infamous cases along with the performances that serve as lawful entertainment.”

The renewal comes just over a month after the Indian series first debuted on Netflix on March 1st, 2024. The Netflix India X account announced the return with a teaser spliced with highlights from season 1. “Your most loved characters,” reads the teaser, “are coming back with season 2 of the most loved courtroom comedy.”

The renewal of Maamla Legal Hai comes hot off the heels of Netflix’s recent Next on Netflix India event, where the streamer debuted several new shows and movies and announced some renewals, including the renewal of Dehli Crime for a third season. This show is one of nine Netflix Original India series returning for new seasons, with others, including season 3 due out later in 2024, Mismatched, Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, Rana Naidu, Guns & Gulaabs, and Kaala Paani.

How well has Maamla Legal Hai performed on Netflix? It did pretty well in its home country, and it’s even broken into other countries. According to FlixPatrol, the show featured in the top 10s in at least 17 countries that it tracks with the best-performing countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India. In fact, in all three countries, the show remains in the top 10s after a month, and in India, the show continues to rank #2 as of April 4th. The show also featured in the Netflix top 10s for Canada for 5 days

As we’ve documented before, a show’s renewal often depends on a solid performance in its home territory, which often means it will be featured in the Netflix Top 10s for 30 days or longer.

The show also featured in Netflix’s global top 10s for two weeks, with 13.3 million hours watched, equating to 3.1 million views.
