Pokémon Go has been a really popular mobile game ever since it came out in 2016, and Niantic has been adding more content ever since. Recently, the company just announced its new powered-up PokéStops. These are a way for trainers to earn more rewards when they scan.
The Powered-up PokéStops can be leveled up for more rewards.
If you’re not familiar with what PokéStops are, then you might not get why it’s significant that they’re powered up. PokéStops are locations on the map that you can scan when you get close to them. When you scan them, they give you items to help you in the game.
Now, Niantic wants to take that concept to the next level. The company wants to reward people for scanning the same PokéStop multiple times. Each time you scan a PokéStop, it’s like gaining EXP, and each time you level up, you gain more items from the PokéStop.
If you scan a PokéStop 5 times, it becomes powered up and it reaches level 1. When you scan it 10 times, it reaches level 2 and it reaches level 3 when you scan it 15 times.
There are perks for working with others
Powered-up PokéStops don’t only benefit those who go at it alone. You have the option to team up with other people to work on more than one PokéStop at the same time. When you team up with another person, the PokéStops will look different on the map.
If you’re excited to do this, there’s one caveat. You will need to be at least level 20 to do this. Any seasoned Pokémon Go veteran should be miles past that by now. If not, and you’re a more casual gamer, then the Powered-Up PokéStops might be a good incentive.
How to scan PokéStops
If you don’t really know what it means to scan a PokéStop, then you might want to know before you start trying to power them up. By scanning them, you’re using your phone’s/tablet’s camera to take a visual scan of the stop.
What you want to do is get within about five meters of the stop. Then, you’re going to activate your camera in the Pokémon Go app. Point the camera at the stop and walk all the way around it until you have a complete scan.
There are going to be stops that you can’t walk all the way around. For those, you’ll have to do things differently. For buildings, you will want to move laterally from one side to another. In the case you have a large park, you will just want to get a wide shot of it.
