Saban Films’ wartime-horror film puts soldiers in a land of the dead behind enemy lines, where Nazis aren’t the biggest threat for them.
Saban Films have released the first trailer of its upcoming wartime-horror film, Warhunt. The film follows a group of American soldiers who drops behind enemy lines for a search and recovery mission during World War II. However, they are unaware that the Black Forest they have entered is a horrific coven that will bring terror upon them far more dangerous than the Nazis.
Warhunt was the first film that successfully wrapped production during the initial strike of the pandemic when all of the world and other film shoots and production went under a long lockdown. The film, now being distributed by Saban Films, is now eyeing a theatrical release on January 21, 2022, followed by making the film available for video on demand.
Warhunt has a relatively unknown cast, which, however, is led by Academy-Award nominated actor Mickey Rourke, who’s known for his roles in The Wrestler, Sin City, Iron Man 2, and The Rainmaker. Besides Rourke, Warhunt stars Robert Knepper (iZombie) and Jackson Rathbone (The Twilight Saga) in prominent roles. The film is being helmed by Mario Borrelli, who’s an experienced concept artist and illustrator, having previously worked on films like Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Borrelli has previously directed the 2017 film, The Recall. Borreli has also co-written the film.
The film’s trailer features American soldiers struggling their way through the Black Forest while encountering inhumane murders, which they deduce couldn’t be Germans’ work. As they lose their sanity over the situation, the group begins to fall prey to their soon confirmed superstitious beliefs. What follows in the trailer is these soldiers struggle to find a way back home while fighting an invisible and invincible dark force.
Warhunt is being produced by Julie Zaytseva of Forma Pro Films, Adel Nur of Atomik Content, and Yu-Fai Suen. Written and directed by Mario Borrelli, it will release on January 21, 2022.
Official Synopsis:
1945. A US military cargo plane loses control and violently crashes behind enemy lines in the middle of the German black forest. Immediately ruthless Major Johnson (Mickey Rourke) sends a squad of his bravest soldiers on a rescue mission to retrieve the top secret material the plane was carrying. Led by Sergeant Brewer (Robert Knepper) and Walsh (Jackson Rathbone), the soldiers venture deep into the forest near the crash site. They soon discover hanged Nazi soldiers and other dead bodies bearing ancient, magical symbols. Suddenly their compasses fail, their perceptions twist and straying from the group leads to profound horror as they are attacked by a powerful, supernatural force. Fighting for the dainty and struggling to survive they must uncover the shocking truth behind the force before the Nazis and do everything they can to remove all evidence it ever existed, even at the cost of their own lives
