Software support is a big subject in the tech world because no one likes buying a device with an expiration date. Nvidia has been offering its own Android TV devices called the Shield TV devices, and, according to a tweet from @AndroidTV_Rumor, Android 11 is on its way.
A list of compatible Nvidia Shield TV devices was revealed
Nvidia is definitely a company that likes to support its devices. The first Shield TV device was released back in 2015, and it ran Android 5.0 Lollipop. That device had been updated up to Android 9, which is impressive by any standards.
On the Google Play console, it lists all of the Nvidia Shield TV devices that will get the Android 11 update. What’s neat is that it lists ALL Nvidia devices as eligible for the update. This includes the older 2015 model (imagine a phone from 2015 getting the latest Android update)!
However, there seems to be one odd detail. While the list has all of the devices, it appears to be missing the model named “darcy.” It seems rather odd because this device was released back in 2017, so it shouldn’t be too old to update. Most likely, this is just an error on the company’s part.
There’s not much more information to go on
With this list, we basically have confirmation that these devices are getting the update. Other than that, there’s not much more that we can tell. The company didn’t state when we will see this update land. We also don’t know what changes Nvidia will make to the software. Only time will tell.
What is the Nvidia Shield TV?
Multiple companies make their own Android TV-powered devices, and Nvidia is no different. The company makes a line of powerful Android TV devices, and they all have robust features. The current models are the Shield TV and the Shield TV Pro.
The Shield TV can stream HDR content at 4K resolution for fantastic visuals. Along with that, it also supports Dolby Atmos enhanced audio. You can connect it to the internet using Wi-Fi or the built-in ethernet port. It has 8GB of storage onboard and a micro SD card port to load on content. This device costs $149.
The Nvidia Shield TV Pro is bigger both in terms of features and in size. Like the original model, it can stream 4K HDR content. It has double the on board storage of the original version at 16GB. You also get two USB 3 ports on the back. This one will cost you $199.
