Facebook Starts Testing ‘Professional Mode’ For Creators

Facebook is gearing up to launch “Professional Mode” for eligible creators, allowing them to earn revenue without making a separate Page on the platform. The feature comes as Meta is making significant investments towards creators to catch up with apps like TikTok.

Among the notable features of Professional Mode is the inclusion of the Reels Play program. This enables creators to make up to $35,000 each month, depending on the views of their Reels. The program was only available to users with individual Pages in the past but is now available to a handful of professional profiles.

Professional Mode profiles offer the same kind of insight as Pages on Facebook. These profiles can access detailed information on comments, shares, reactions, follower growth, etc. Given the fact that professional profiles are meant for public viewing, Facebook notes that “anyone can follow you and see your public content in their feed.” However, users can still limit the visibility of their posts.

Professional Mode is an invitation-only feature right now

The company clarified that this feature would be invitation-only for select professional profiles in the U.S. While more users in the region would get the feature “soon,” a global expansion could be a few months away.

As a next step, the social media juggernaut is contemplating the inclusion of 60-second videos on Reels plus the ability to save drafts midway through the creation process. Facebook is also keen on bringing Reels to more regions in 2022.

Rival short-form video hosting platform TikTok currently leads the pack in the segment. The app passed 3 billion downloads not too long ago, as Engadget notes. Although TikTok is the most popular app available today, the next four slots belong to Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger). Snapchat slots in the sixth spot, followed by Telegram, Google Duo, CapCut, and Google Meet. This illustrates the sheer dominance of Meta in the social media industry. However, the company desperately wants to dethrone TikTok as the most popular social media app in the world.

Meanwhile, Meta is investing a billion dollars towards its creator program. This will include bonuses for Instagram influencers and creators. Additionally, the company is also expanding its Stars program. Users can now bypass the App Store and Play Store to purchase “Stars” from the company’s dedicated Store. “Stars” is Facebook’s in-app currency used to tip creators during videos or live streams.
