Amazon has entered into a partnership with GOG for its Luna cloud gaming service, which means that soon, you’ll be able to play titles like Cyberpunk 2077 using Luna. This won’t be Cyberpunk 2077’s first experience with cloud gaming services. It was available through Google’s now defunct Stadia service back when the game was initially launched. And although Stadia is no longer available, you can still access Cyberpunk 2077 with NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW.
The thing with GeForce NOW is that for some it can be quite an extra expense. Even if it is worth it. What’s nice about Luna is that you can sort of neatly wrap it up with the rest of your Amazon subscriptions. It’s not bundled together, but it is all under the Amazon umbrella, and that can make it easier to keep tabs on. Additionally, this isn’t GOG’s first experience with cloud gaming, either. GOG versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 are playable through GeForce NOW. This is admittedly a lot more limiting than GOG’s partnership with Luna, however.
You can buy GOG games through Amazon Luna
Here’s where the partnership between GOG and Amazon Luna gets pretty awesome. You won’t just get a few games from GOG to play. Amazon is actually bringing a selection of GOG games to Luna. What’s more, is that you can buy GOG games through Amazon Luna. For example, let’s say you boot up the Luna app on your TV or phone. You see a new game that just dropped on GOG recently. If you don’t already own it, you can purchase the game on Luna. The neat part though is that even if you buy it on Luna, it will still be available on GOG.
“It works both ways. You’ll be able to buy games that are available on GOG via Luna’s client and they will go straight into your GOG library,” the GOG team said in an official blog post. What this means for subscribers is that your game library is safe. You won’t have to worry about them disappearing if Luna goes belly up one day. And while we hope that doesn’t happen, nothing lasts forever, as all the loyal Stadia fans can attest to. As 9To5Google points out, at least with GOG and Luna, if Luna ever goes away you can still play your games as they’ll be available in your GOG library. You’ll just have to install them on a PC.
Amazon added the ability to buy games on Luna near the end of last year. In the same way that you can access GOG games in your GOG library, you can purchase a Ubisoft title through Luna and it’ll be available via Ubisoft Connect. Allowing you to download it for offline play if you ever need or want to do so.
