Earlier this week, a report surfaced that Samsung is considering switching to a rectangular or squarish design for its smartwatches. While that remains a possibility, circular Galaxy Watches might not go away. A fresh rumor says the company has planned three variants of the Galaxy Watch 7, one or more of which could be circular. A processor upgrade is also reportedly on the cards.
Galaxy Watch 7 to come in three variants
Samsung originally made square watches but switched to a circular design with the Gear S2 in 2015. It has since only made circular watches. However, a recent report said the company plans to go back to the square design, either with the Galaxy Watch 7 series this year or in the future. No other information was available, leaving open the possibilities for a dual-design approach.
The social media went abuzz with mixed reactions from fans. There have been reactions in favor and against this rumored move from Samsung. It appears the company has found a way to please both groups of its fans. According to a rumor shared on X by @kro_roe, the Korean firm plans to launch the Galaxy Watch 7 series in three variants. There will be a Classic, a Pro, and an unnamed third variant.
Samsung’s Classic watches come with a physical rotating bezel, while the company has only launched one Pro model (Galaxy Watch 5 Pro) with a massive battery (590mAh). More importantly, both are circular. While the X post doesn’t talk about the shape of the watches, these brandings suggest they will be circular. The third variant, which doesn’t yet have a name, could be a square model.
Of course, this is mere speculation from us. In over a decade of Samsung’s smartwatch history, this will be the first time that it has released three variants of the same watch. The company must have planned something big. There are also rumors that the Korean firm will soon introduce a Fan Edition (FE) Galaxy Watch. Maybe the lineup will be a regular from the Galaxy Watch 7 series. Only time will tell.
A new processor is also on the cards
In related news, X tipster @TheGalox_ says the Galaxy Watch 7 will get a much-improved processor from Samsung. The new watches will ship with the Exynos W940, said to be 50% more efficient and 30% faster than the Exynos W930 used in the Galaxy Watch 6. Earlier rumors have revealed that the Exynos W940 will be a 3nm chip, so these upgrades seem reasonable. You can expect more leaks about the Galaxy Watch 7 in the coming months.
