Happy Friday, and welcome to your weekly rundown of everything new you can stream on Netflix right now. We’ll pick through some of the best new titles from the new releases and look at what’s trending on Netflix today and what’s been trending over the past week.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the big new title set to release is Thanksgiving, the Eli Roth horror movie that debuted in theaters late last year.
Of course, President’s Day isn’t the only major holiday as of late, with Wednesday being Valentine’s Day. We rounded up Netflix’s selection of new romance titles and gave you some tips on digging through Netflix’s library.
Finally, one other title that is now available as part of your Netflix subscription that’s not a movie or a series is Pinball Masters, which dropped on Netflix Games unceremoniously earlier this week. You can download that on either Android or iOS.
That’s enough house-keeping – let’s dive in:
What to Watch on Netflix This Weekend
Warrior (Seasons 1-3)
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Action, Crime, Drama
Cast: Andrew Koji, Olivia Cheng, Jason Tobin, Dianne Doan, Kieran Bew, Dean S. Jagger
Writer: Jonathan Tropper
Runtime: 60 min / 1h 0m
Netflix’s licensing mania continues in 2024, and one title we’ve been chomping at the bit to try out is Warrior, which sees all three seasons land on the service today. Labeled an HBO Original title, the show began its life on Cinemax before transitioning over to HBO Max and, as you may know, was sadly canceled. Don’t let that put you off, though, as by all accounts, the series is one of Max’s finest.
Set in the 19th Century, this martial arts drama has you following an expert arriving in San Fransisco from China and joins a powerful crime family.
High-Rise (2015)
Rating: R
Language: English
Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi
Director: Ben Wheatley
Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Elisabeth Moss
Writer: Amy Jump, J.G. Ballard
Runtime: 119 min / 1h 59m
One movie that arrived on Netflix under the radar this week is High-Rise, which dropped on February 12th. If you recently watched The Kitchen, this is a perfect companion movie, given that it’s also a British dystopian sci-fi movie set in a high rise.
Based on the novel, you’ll follow residents of a tower block that has began to run out of control.
Although the movie has mixed reviews from critics and audiences, I think it has aged better than most, thanks to a compelling story and some great performances from its star-studded cast.
Einstein and the Bomb (2024)
Rating: TV-14
Language: English
Genre: Documentary, History
Director: Anthony Philipson
Cast: Aidan McArdle, Andrew Havill, Rachel Barry, Helena Westerman, Leo Ashizawa, Jay Lewis Mitchell
Runtime: 76 mins / 1h 16m
Finally, we want to highlight a new docu-drama movie that just landed on Netflix globally as a Netflix Original, but you wouldn’t know it given how little press there’s been about it. That’s surprising given that Albert Einstein’s popularity (this is a weird sentence – stay with me) has been at an all-time high since Oppenheimer broke a billion dollars at the box office last year.
Combining interviews and stock footage with dramatized sections, this movie seeks to tell you the real story of the life and work of the famed scientist.
