- Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate trailer has disappointed fans, who are critical of the lack of the original voice cast and CGI quality.

The long-awaited sequel to the 2010 superhero animated hit, Megamind, has finally arrived…but it’s not exactly what fans had hoped for. Titled Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate, the first trailer for the follow-up has now been released, and fans have taken to social media to react to what they’ve seen. And it’s not good. Many have taken issue with the lack of the original voice cast, particularly Will Ferrell as the titular villain-turned-hero, while others have criticized the CGI on display. In fact, many have even compared Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate to the kind of straight-to-DVD (or even straight-to-VHS) lackluster sequels that Disney and other animation studios used to release way back when.
“Why does this animation from almost 14 years ago look so much better then the new megamind movie. That’s just sad,” says one Megamind fan in response to the new trailer, while another adds, “waiting 14 years for a sequel to MEGAMIND to wake up to **that** was a gross feeling not gonna lie.”
Others are already in denial about the very existence of Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate and its spinoff series Megamind Rules!, both of which are due to be released on Peacock on March 1, 2024. “It’s so cool how Megamind ended and they never made anymore Megamind stuff after this,” said another fan upon seeing the footage.

Others have questioned why the likes of the Trolls franchise and Boss Baby have received big-budget, theatrical sequels, while Megamind has been chosen to continue his adventures on the small screen. “Dreamworks on their way to give Trolls multiple high-budget sequels only to give Megamind a direct-to-DVD movie,” said one reaction, with another equally perplexed at the decision-making, “So lemme get this straight, Boss Baby can get a theatrical released sequel yet Megamind is gonna get a $6 budget direct to video ass follow up???”
Megamind Fans Left Disappointed That Will Ferrell Has Not Returned
Megamind
- Release Date
- October 28, 2010
- Tagline
- A superhero movie with a mind of its own.
One of the most pressing questions following the release of the Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate trailer, though, is the whereabouts of Will Ferrell. The Anchorman and Barbie star voiced the title character in the first outing, but has been replaced with voice actor Keith Ferguson, who has played the character before in the Megamind video game.
Despite his previous experience, Megamind fans are missing the dulcet tones of Ferrell.
Megamind is back and allegedly more heroic than ever in his new movie, Megamind vs. The Doom Syndicate and his all new series Megamind Rules! Picking up mere moments after the events of the 2010 movie, Megamind’s former villain team, The Doom Syndicate, returns to Metro City with a nefarious plan to launch the entire city to the Moon.
