Adam the First Will Be Both an Epic Journey & Something Deeply Personal

Franco also co-composed the music for the film with longtime friend and musical collaborator, Michael Grazi. Franco’s filmmaking debut, Cheerleader enjoyed a successful run on the festival circuit and has garnered numerous awards and ongoing accolades. The filmmaker has released a statement regarding Adam the First, in which he describes the project as both “an epic journey, and something deeply personal.”

“With Adam The First, I intend to make a film that is both an epic journey, and something deeply personal. This is a film that will bring the grand scale adventure, and magic realism of films such as Kill Bill, Barry Lyndon, and The Wild Bunch, to meet the sense of wonder, humanity, and contemplation of films such as Badlands, Days of Heaven, and Paris Texas. Adam is a young boy who is trying to find his father and make sense of the world around him.

Lacking a father figure to emulate creates a deep sense of confusion within him but allows for an open mindedness to each potential father’s way of life. Over the course of Adam’s adventures, we find that no matter how different the lifestyle, or how unusual the framework through which you see the world, there will always be a consistent commonality between people. That common denominator is humanity and the great experience of struggle, longing, and need for love, that we all possess. In this way, my hope is to tell a story that is both universal and timeless.”

Adam the First is due to open in theaters across the U.S. on February 14, courtesy of North America by Electric Entertainment.
