Some new information surfaced surrounding Samsung ISOCELL’s 200MP camera. According to Ice Universe, a well-known tipster, Xiaomi will utilize Samsung’s 200MP camera in H2 2022, while Samsung will first use it in 2023.
Xiaomi is looking to utilize 200MP camera in H2 2022, and Samsung in 2023
What’s interesting here is that Motorola is said to use this camera first, even before Xiaomi. So, we can expect Motorola to release a phone with a 200MP camera before the second half of 2022, basically.
Samsung has already announced this camera, the ISOCELL HP1. That camera sensor was announced back in September, as the world’s first 200MP smartphone camera.
That camera sensor looks really compelling on paper, to say the least. It will be really interesting to see how it performs in a phone, that’s for sure. It’s also worth noting that both Xiaomi and Samsung already used ISOCELL’s 108MP camera.
The ISOCELL HP1 is a 1/1.22-inch sensor, so it’s huge. It features 0.64um-sized pixels, and it can produce 50-megapixel or 12.5-megapixel images thanks to pixel binning tech.
Samsung is using the all-new pixel-binning technology here called “ChameleonCell”. Now, when it gets dark, this sensor uses 2×2 pixel binning (merges four neighboring pixels) to transform into a 50-megapixel camera with 1.28um-sized pixels.
The ISOCELL HP1 uses 4×4 pixel binning if it gets extremely dark
If it gets extremely dark, the ISOCELL HP1 can merge 16 neighboring pixels (4×4 pixel binning) to absorb even more light. It then transforms into a 12.5-megapixel camera with 2.56um-sized pixels.
It can record 8K videos at 30fps, 4K videos at 120fps, and fullHD videos at 240fps. The camera also uses Double Super PD autofocus tech.
All of this sounds really interesting. As I said earlier, the ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor looks great on paper, to say the least. It will be extremely interesting to see it in action once it finally makes its way to a smartphone.
