Happy New Year from us all here at What’s on Netflix, and as always, the first of the month brings lots of new titles. Below, we’ll take you through all the 59 new movies that dropped today and nine series.
Over the past few days, Netflix has added some truly classic movies from the 1970s – we’ll have more on those in a separate article, but we’ll list the titles below.
For more on what’s to come throughout the rest of the month – check out our January 2024 preview, which we just updated today with a bunch more titles on the way, including After Everything: The Final Chapter.
One final note before we dig in. You may be expecting to see Black Sails on this list, but sadly, Netflix has seemingly pushed back the release date. More on this when we get it.
Three Best New Titles Added to Netflix Today
Excluding the 1970s movies, here are three picks on what to watch on Netflix today from the new arrivals:
Fool Me Once (Limited Series)
Number of episodes: 8
Rating: TV-MA
Language: English
Genre: Crime, Drama, Mystery
Cast: Richard Armitage, Michelle Keegan, Adeel Akhtar
Runtime: 56 mins
Netflix’s own produced offering to bring us all into the New Year is the newest Harlan Coben adaptation, which will take you to Britain and follow a woman’s discovery that her husband, who she thought was dead, is very much alive.
It’s got an all-star cast, and early reviews for the new limited series are looking very strong thus far.
Gravity (2013)
Rating: PG-13
Language: English
Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Director: Alfonso Cuarón
Cast: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris
Writer: Alfonso Cuarón, Jonás Cuarón
Runtime: 91 min / 1h 31m
If you got a new TV over Christmas, there are few better titles available on Netflix that feature more impressive visuals than Gravity to put your new display to the test. Even if you didn’t get a new TV, we’d highly recommend giving Gravity a watch or rewatch as it’s one of the best space movies of all time.
Following Dr Ryan Stone (played by Sandra Bullock), you’ll follow her as she embarks on one of her first space walks but disaster soon strikes and she has to do everything she can to survive.
John Wick Movies
If you’re like me, you love it when Netflix adds complete collections of titles (or at least, the majority of titles within a franchise), and while Netflix US did pick up the Jurassic Park movies again, they also got the first three John Wick movies with only the fourth now streaming elsewhere.
Although Keanu Reeves is associated with many roles, not least as Neo in The Matrix, his defining modern role is undoubtedly the action-packed John Wick franchise.
Three entries dropped today, with the third undoubtedly being my favorite of the bunch. Created by Derek Kolstad, the movies follow a former hitman assassin who is dragged back into his occupation after his dog is killed.
