After Pixel phones, Google has now released the November update for the Pixel Watch lineup. The LTE variant of the Pixel Watch 2 is the first to get the new update. Interestingly, it does not seem to bring a new security patch. The device remains on the October patch even after installing the November software build. It is unclear whether the company has done this deliberately or it messed up something.

Google pushes the November update to the Pixel Watch 2 LTE

As usual, Google took to the official community forum to announce the November update for its smartwatches. The announcement post specifically mentioned the rollout of the update for the Pixel Watch 2 LTE, which runs Wear OS 4 out of the box. The company said it’s the November 2023 software update with bug fixes and improvements. It did not specify whether the latest security patch was part of the package.

While that is usually the case with new updates for Pixel devices, this appears to be a rare exception. A user who installed the update confirmed that their Pixel Watch 2 LTE remained on the October security patch. 9to5Google also confirmed the same. As the publication notes, the new build number for the global version of the watch—TWD9.231005.005.B3—already hints at a minor release. The device was previously running software version B1.

This makes us wonder if Google noticed some issues with the Pixel Watch 2 LTE and pushed the update to quickly fix it. Otherwise, it is weird that the company has not released the November update for the Wi-Fi variant. The first-gen Pixel Watch missing the update makes for a curious speculation too. All of this confusion should be settled in the coming weeks when Google widely pushes the new firmware for its smartwatches all over the world.

Check for new updates on your Google watch

Meanwhile, you can check for new updates manually from the Settings app. Go to the System menu and select System updates. If an update is available, you will be prompted to download it. Turn off Bluetooth to force the watch to a Wi-Fi connection, which speeds up the download process. If you see the “Your watch is up to date” screen, tapping on it multiple times in quick succession sometimes triggers the update. However, if the trick doesn’t work, you must wait a few more days to get the November update on your Pixel Watch.
