There are those messages that you only want to be viewed once. After that, it needs to explode in Inspector Gadget style. WhatsApp has this functionality for photos and videos, but it’s been missing one form of media. Well, it looks like that’s going to change. WhatsApp seems to be working on extending its View Once Mode to voice notes.
The View Once mode has been in development for the app for some time, and it’s a useful tool to keep your messages safe. There are conversations that you don’t want to leave a paper trail. They could be related to personal matters, business practices, or of the, let’s just say, “saucy” nature. Either way you slice it, view once mode is a useful feature to have.
When you use it, the message will immediately disappear so that no one else can access it. If you want to see it again, you’ll have to ask the sender to send it again.
WhatsApp is extending View Once mode to voice notes
Text-based messages and images aren’t the only messages that people want to go away. WhatsApp gives you the ability to send voice notes to other people, and they could get pretty personal as well. Well, as per a new report, WhatsApp is working on the ability to send voice notes in View Once mode.
When you’re recording your voice note, you’ll see the View Once icon appear. Tapping on the icon will put the memo on View Once mode, before sending. Once sent, the recipient won’t be able to download, record, or forward the message. It lives and dies in the chat.
The mode goes both ways, as the original sender won’t be able to access the recording either. This is an extreme way of preserving privacy, but most people will appreciate it. When you send a message to someone, you have no idea what that person will do with it.
Right now, WhatsApp is currently testing this feature on a limited number of beta testers on the app, so it’s not coming to the public just yet. Fortunately, the feature is making it to more testers, so if you’re on the beta, you should keep an eye out for it.
