October Has a Lot to Offer Horror Movie Fans

Still from Five Nights at Freddy's
Universal Pictures

The big screen has plenty to offer horror movie fans this October. Having already gifted horror fans with the likes of Saw X, a prequel-slash-sequel that finds Tobin Bell back as John Kramer, aka Jigsaw who takes his retribution out on a new group after traveling to Mexico for an experimental procedure that turns out to be a scam, and more recently The Exorcist: Believer, a legacy sequel to the 1973 horror movie classic.

The rest of the month will see the release of V/H/S/85, a found footage horror movie that continues the anthology story telling with each terrifying segment being brought to life by a different filmmaker; the Hulu original Appendage, which follows an insecure fashion designer whose feelings begin to manifest themselves into a physical form; and the prequel Pet Sematary: Bloodlines, which explores events set before the 2019 adaptation of the Stephen King classic, Pet Sematary, and follows a young Jud Crandall, who unveils the secrets behind the unholy burial ground.

And all that is without even mentioning the likes of The Mill, Dark Harvest, Dear David, and Suitable Flesh.

This month will also see the release of the highly anticipated adaptation of horror video game Five Nights at Freddy’s. Starring Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Matthew Lillard, Five Nights at Freddy’s centers on Mike Schmidt, a troubled security guard, who accepts a night job at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a once-successful but now abandoned family entertainment center, where he discovers its four animatronic mascots – Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy – move and kill anyone that is still there after midnight.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is scheduled to be released simultaneously in theaters and on Peacock in the United States on October 27, 2023, by Universal Pictures.
